Dalton is the ideal community to live in and raise a family. It is one of those little towns you pass through on the way to the Black Hills of South Dakota.
HISTORY
Before there was “Dalton” the Pony Express came through this area. After the arrival of the Railroad, the site where Dalton is located was used as a work station. In 1900, a depot was built and the town of Dalton was born. No one knows where the name came from but Dalton was established and has been around for more than 100 years.
Over the years, Dalton grew and businesses grew. The Burlington Northern Railroad goes through Dalton today.
Currently, the population is around 350 people. Our residents take pride in our little town, their homes, their yards, and are proud of the businesses we have. We have the Dalton Telephone Company, Frenchman Valley Coop, First National Bank, Dalton Market, & US Post Office. We also have a Volunteer Fire Department, ambulance, several churches, K-12 school, Pioneer Museum, Public Library, car sales, beauty shop, gas station & taverns.
